Mixing comedy and and a fair amount of sarcasm, Catch 22 follows the life of Yossarian, a WWII bombardier living in the war zone and subjected to an alternate universe with it's own perverse logic. The book has as many hilarious one-liners as deep critiques of human nature, religion and war. The perfect tone and absurdity of the book reflect a world where militarism and authority test the wits of the individual and seriously challenge his dignity and intelligence.
